Introduction
A bright and colorful playback device for portable use.
One of my earlier devices when I started, the Sony MZ-E630 is a great playback only device.
While not as thin as the MZ-E900, it is still lightweight and very portable.

Design and Ergonomics
The front plate is a minimal design with the Sony logo and model number.
The sides are white (?) plastic, with the exception of the white model, which has black plastic on the sides.
The sides feature the open button, indicator light, headphone/remote jack and the battery door for the gumstick battery.

The “standard” side car also works with this player.

The control buttons are on the back of the player in a triangle shape along with a hold button to prevent accidental button presses on the device.

Features
The Sony MZ-E630 supports SP and MDLP playback, but not Hi-MD.
The E630 also comes in 6 different colors, black, white, red, blue, silver, and green.

The E630 also comes with a dock to charge the device. But because I use li-ion gumstick batteries, I do not use the dock.

Limitations
This device is a great portable playback device.
But similar to many other Sony playback devices, it only has an indicator light.
To see playback information and to adjust sound profiles, a remote control is needed.
There is no recording functionality on the E630 either.
Final Thoughts
I love using this device. It’s simple and works very well as a playback device.
It’s lightweight and playback time is decent.
If you’re looking for a MDLP playback device, this is one I would recommend.
